During the visit, Erarslan and his delegation held a series of meetings and consultations with our Board Member, Mustafa ERTAŞ, regarding the new departments planned to be opened within Hacıbektaş MYO.
Director Erarslan stated that the visit and meetings regarding the planned departments, conducted within the scope of university-city and university-industry cooperation, were highly productive.
Erarslan said, “With the abolition of exam-free transition from Vocational and Technical High Schools to Higher Education in 2017, there was a significant decrease in student quotas placing in Vocational School programs, especially those accepting students with quantitative scores across the country. This decline particularly affected Vocational Schools located outside the city center, such as ours, much more. This situation inevitably raised the question of how we can attract students to the open departments within our university. Consequently, we realized the need to open new programs geared towards the needs of the sector and which would be in higher demand by students.
Based on this, we visited public, private, and non-governmental organizations to exchange views on better understanding which branches the sector needs qualified personnel in, and what departments and programs would allow our graduating youth to find jobs more easily. During our visits, the issue of promoting Vocational School programs more in high schools was frequently raised. As the Vocational School, we decided to cooperate with the Nevşehir Provincial Directorate of National Education on promotional activities and to promote existing and newly opening programs more in secondary education institutions in Nevşehir.”
Erarslan continued, “In our visits to sector representatives, they expressed that they have a great need for qualified personnel but experience difficulties in supplying a qualified workforce. In this regard, the necessity of updating course curriculums in line with sector needs emerged. The Nevşehir Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen also stated that they would work on the issues specified in their own boards and convey the relevant work to us by visiting our Vocational School.”
